Sophomore starter Lowry has had quite a month. He’s 4-0 with a 0.57 ERA in August. He’s driven in as many runs (2) as he’s allowed and also has as many extra base hits at the plate (1) as he’s allowed.
Pretty sweet.
I watched this entire game on the MLB package and was irate when Felipe Alou came out to remove Noah Lowry in the 9th inning. The SF Giants were ahead of the Philadelphia Phillies 5-0 with two outs in the 9th inning. Shortstop Omar Vizquel did a 360 on Bobby Areu’s dribbler up the middle and just missed him on a bang-bang play at 1st. That’s when Alou singled for LaTroy Hawkins to come into the contest, taking away Lowry’s shot at a shutout. Felipe removing Noah was the only way this kid was going to lose his shutout bid, as he was still dealing. Hawkins blew away Pat Burrell to end the game. I know Noah Lowry had been questionable for the start due to a blister and had applied lime juice to his sore digit during the week, but the blister had nothing to do with his being lifted. I’ll tell you something, I won’t be shedding any tears when Felipe Alou loses his job.
