Scott Rolen:  4 for 5, 2B, HR, 3 runs, 2 rbis

Give it up for Scotty.  My buddy Brando has him on his APBA team and sees his 07 stats dwindle and wonders if 08 would be a good year to draft a thirdbaseman.

Well, yesterday, Rolen is trying to dispel that idea.

That said, next year’s rookie draft for our league will have quite tasty thirdbasemen with Braun, Gordon, Kouzmanoff, Iwamura, etc.

But keep it quiet, I’m in the market for a thirdbaseman, too.

7/2/07 Linescore of the Day: Damian Miller

dmiller

Damian Miller: 4 for 5, 2 HR, 2 runs, 7 rbis

Yowza! Miller, a .264 lifetime hitter who had a career high 13 homers in 2001 for the WS champs Arizona Diamondbacks, made it HIS night, Monday

…and he wasn’t even really scheduled to play. Johnny Estrada was scheduled to rest Sunday but played anyway so Miller strapped on the gear for last night’s game.

Milwaukee pretty much needed all of those rbis as they defeated Pittsburgh 10-7.

7/1/07 Linescore of the Day: Kameron Loe

loe

Kameron Loe: 6 IP, 6 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 2 BB, 1 K (Win)

Ok, there were certainly better performances on Sunday. Josh Willingham’s 5 hit game comes to mind. Also, five starters pitched 6 innings or more and didn’t allow a run (Heck, Atlanta’s Carlyle and Florida’s Willis faced each other and COMBINED for 7 shutout innings).

Regardless, I picked Loe because I had a gut feeling that he’s been improving as of late. I looked up his stats indeed, he has. Going into his June 14th, start, he was 1-5. He won that start against Pittsburgh (ok, no big feat) and hasn’t lost a start since.

He’s now 5-6 with a 5.72 which means he’s probably getting some help from his friends. That said, since his winning ways have started, he hasn’t given up more than 3 runs in a start.

Keep doing that and he’s bound to get below 5.00, no?

6/21/07 Linescore of the Day: King Felix

Felix Hernandez: 8 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 9 K (Win)

Felix had his way with a quiet Pirate offense. It was second game in a row Pittsburgh got shut out.

It’s Hernandez’ second win in seven starts since coming back from the DL but he’s showing improvement. His May ERA was a lofty 6.30 and so far, his June ERA is a much lower 3.86.

5/6/07 Linescore of the Day: Trot Nixon

Trot Nixon: 5 for 5, 2B, 2 runs, 4 rbis

Cleveland rightfielder Trot Nixon had his first career five-hit game in the Tribe’s 9-6 win. That effort raised his batting average 49 points. In the same game, Oriole catcher Ramon Hernandez banged out 4 hits with 4 rbis alas, in a losing cause.

In NL action, Phillie outfielder Pat Burrell was 4 for 4… in walks. It was the second time Burrell had 4 walks in a game. The first time was in 2005.

5/5/07 Linescore of the Day: Chien-Ming Wang

Chien-Ming Wang: 8 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 4 K (Win)

I remember just last year at our fantasy draft some people were giggling over Chien-Ming Wang’s last name. I would roll my eyes and say it’s not pronounced like THAT. Then another round of giggles. *Sigh* It’s 2007 now and everyone knows his name.

Anyway, Wang came pretty dang close to a perfect game but left a changeup pitch “high” (his words) and Ben Broussard took it deep for the Mariner’s only run.

It was Wang’s first start since being put on the disabled list for a strained right hamstring.

In other Yankee news, it sounds like their beleaguered pitching staff will be getting more help. The Rocket has decided to join them in a one-year deal.

5/4/07 Linescore of the Day: Raul Ibanez

rauol

Raul Ibanez: 4 for 6, 2 runs, 2 rbis

Ibanez was part of the hitting parade that was the Seattle Mariners yesterday against the Yanks’ Kei Igawa and their bullpen. Seven Mariners had multi-hit games (3 had three or more hits.

I almost had Ibanez in my fantasy draft. I even bid on him. But I apparently was sleeping on the job and the auction had already been called. Let a lesson be learned there folks.

5/3/07 Linescore of the Day: Russ Gload

Russ Gload: 4 for 4, 2B, 3B, 3 runs, 2 rbis

Amazingly, there were four players who went 4 for 4 on Thursday; Gload, the Twins’ Nick Punto, Cleveland’s Victor Martinez and Boston’s Wily Mo Pena. However, Russ Gload made the most of his hit parade. Punto who garnered just one rbi and Pena just one run were downright wasteful in their efforts.

Gload’s four hits puts him over the .300 mark at .307.

5/02/07 Linescore of the Day: Gary Sheffield

Gary Sheffield: 4 for 4, HR, run, 2 rbi

Sheffield is younger than me. But not by much.

He may fall into the category of players that had a horrendous April but will right himself and have a decent year (see Pujols, Soriano et al). The jury is still out though.

Just in this game, his average went up 35 points. Also, in the last 10 games he’s hit .378. Before you say it’s all because of his 4-4 game, I will say he had 3 other multi-hit games in that span.

So I do think Shef is showing signs of improvement.

Oh, Detriot won by a slim margin 3-2.

5/1/07 Linescore of the Day: Phil Hughes and Josh Willingham

Phil Hughes 6 1/3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 6 K (Win)

Let’s get this out the way. Yankee Phil Hughes almost pitched a no hitter in his second career start. By almost I mean, he left the seventh inning with it intact. But nevertheless, it makes good press. And let’s face it, it’s still quite an accomplishment.

He left with an 0-2 count which meant he was responsible for the batter. Listening to the East Coast Yankee lovin’ MLB Radio guys while it was happening, it was rather funny to hear them worry about the prospects the Yankee bullpen and how it would shake out. Needless to say, Myers came in, got the out but later on gave up a hit.

Hughes is said to be out for 4-6 weeks. That’s what say now.

Josh Willingham 2 for 4, 2B, HR, run, 5 rbis

In my APBA draft this year, I drafted Mike Jacobs to back up Albert Pujols. I should have drafted Josh Willingham who played enough firstbase last year to cover me. Jacobs is ok, i guess but useless to me as long as Pujols is around (other than to back up the few games that Albert will miss.

With the 5 rbis, Josh has 23 for the year and he now is hitting .309.
