Jermaine Dye, Chicago White Sox

4 for 4, 2 doubles, 1 HR, 2 runs, 2 RBI, 1 BIG assist

Jermaine Dye drove in two, scored twice, and his throw to relay man Tadahito Iguchi cutdown the potential tying run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Ichiro was nailed at the plate when he tried to tie things up for the Mariners on a two out double by Richie Sexson. Final result White Sox 4, Seattle 3. GO SOX GO!!!

Steve Trachsel, New York Mets

8 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 6 K, (Win)

Steve Trachsel pitching his first game of the season, did an all right job.  Trach allowed only 2 hits in 8 innings and got the win. 

He gets a bad rap sometimes but he’s won over 10 games in the last 4 seasons and has had an ERA at or below 4.00 in the last three.

Jim Edmonds, St Louis Cardinals

3 for 4, HR, 3 runs, 2 rbis

Diamond Jim did it all for the Cards.  Including a HBP.

Mike Jacobs, New York Mets

4 for 5, 2 HRs, 1 2B, 5 runs, 4 RBIs

The NY Mets pounded the Arizona Diamondbacks 18-4 and Mike Jacobs was a big part of New York’s attack. Mike is off to a great start in the Bigs, 7 for 13 in his first four games, with 4 homers & a double, 9 RBIs & 8 runs, his batting average is .538 & his slugging percentage is 1.538. Not bad for this 39th round draft choice.

Carlos Pena, Detroit Tigers

3 for 4, 2 HR, 2 runs, 4 rbis

Pena’s little trip to AAA ball must have done wonders.  Since coming back, he’s gone 7 for 13 with 5 homers and 10 rbis.  He drove in all four runs for the Tigers in their win against the A’s.

Noah Lowry, San Francisco Giants

8 2/3 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 4 K (Win)

Sophomore starter Lowry has had quite a month.  He’s 4-0 with a 0.57 ERA in August.  He’s driven in as many runs (2) as he’s allowed and also has as many extra base hits at the plate (1) as he’s allowed.

Pretty sweet.

Kris Benson, New York Mets

2/3 IP, 8 H, 6 R, 6 ER, 0 BB, 0 K (Loss)

Yikes!  I’d say Benson was a little off Sunday.  Insert your favorite Anna Benson joke here.

Shawn Chacon, New York Yankees

8 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 3 BB, 5 K (Win)

The Yanks have to feel good about this pickup.  Since coming to them in late July, he’s had a 1.64 ERA and even his usually questionable control is passable (11 walks in 33 IP).

Kudos to Jorge Cantu who went 2 for 3, HR and 4 rbis.  Cantu went unnoticed in our APBA league rookie draft this February.  I’m sure a lot of us who wanted a secondbaseman are wishing we gave him a second look.

Austin Kearns, Cincinnati Reds

2 for 4, 2 HR, 3 runs, 6 rbis

This one isn’t easy for me.  You see I come back from vacation to find out that two outfielders on my APBA team knock heads and one, Cameron, is assuredly out for the season.  Then Kearns, the player I traded to get Cameron, starts hitting the cover off the ball.

I drafted Kearns in the first round when he was a rookie.  I heard all the right stuff about him back then.  He was going to be a five-tool player, “you like Dunn?  Wait till you see Kearns!”, everything.  Well, that may have been true but Kearns could never stay off the DL to prove it.  Frustrated, I traded him for Cameron who may never be what they said Kearns was going to be but he came ready to play.  So much for that. 

This may be the “now or never” point for Kearns.  He almost has as many homers this month than he had for the rest of the season (of course he spent time in the minors).  His batting average remains low (.237) but that could change.
