The Brewers’ Carlos Lee gets honorable mention for his 2 homer, 4 for 5 performance against the Astros. His effort wasn’t quite enough to recover from a 11-2 deficit as the Brew Crew lost a heartbreaker 13-12.

4/17/06 Linescore of the Day: Preston Wilson

Preston Wilson was 5 for 5 yesterday… in strikeouts.  Wilson hit nothing but air all day.  The five Ks was a club record.  The Astros won anyway, thanks to Jason Lane’s homer (described as a “pop-fly that found the first row”) in the 7th.  Preston Wilson 0 for 5, 5 Ks, 7 LOB

4/16/06 Linescore of the Day: Albert Pujols

Albert fit in a week’s work in an afternoon on Easter Sunday.  His last dinger really counted, winning the game for the Cards.  It was Pujols’ 14th multi-homer game and 2nd game which he hit 3 homeruns. Mark Mulder and Bronson Arroyo were the starters of the game.  Offensively, they have combined for three HRs previously in … Continue reading “4/16/06 Linescore of the Day: Albert Pujols”

Mark Mulder and Bronson Arroyo were the starters of the game.  Offensively, they have combined for three HRs previously in this short season.  Ironically, they each both gave up two homers in this game.

Albert Pujols 3 for 4, 3 HR, 4 runs, 5 rbis, 1 BB

4/14/06 Linescore of the Day: Curt Schilling

Curt Schilling upped his season mark to 3-0 with a nifty 1.64 ERA with a 2-1 win over the Seattle Mariners. The Red Sox Ace appears to be healthy once again, which spells trouble for the rest of the AL east. 4/13/06 Linescore of the Day: Cody Ross

5’9″ 203 pound Cody Ross put all his weight into a couple of big flies against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The first came in the 5th inning and broke a 2-2 tie, putting the Dodgers up by four, a Grand Salami! His next homer was a three run blast in the very next inning, putting the … Continue reading “4/13/06 Linescore of the Day: Cody Ross”

4/12/06 Linescore of the Day: Cincinnati fielding

Errors: Valentin (2), Hatteberg (1), Encarnacion 3 (5) By my count, there were 7 hitters with four rbis on Wednesday.  I’m ignoring them and electing the atrocious Reds’ fielding today which contributed to the Cubs’ win.  Eddie E, who was the big hero on Tuesday with his grand slam, was the biggest goat with 3 errors.  … Continue reading “4/12/06 Linescore of the Day: Cincinnati fielding”

By my count, there were 7 hitters with four rbis on Wednesday.

I’m ignoring them and electing the atrocious Reds’ fielding today which contributed to the Cubs’ win.  Eddie E, who was the big hero on Tuesday with his grand slam, was the biggest goat with 3 errors.

Update: Rumor from the Cooperstown Kid has it that Encarnacion was benched for Thursday’s game because of his 3 errors.

4/11/06 Linescore of the Day: Bill Mueller

Bill Mueller, Los Angeles Dodgers 4 for 4, 2 HR, 3 rbis, 2 runs A few players had a good day with the stick.  Khalil Greene, Eric Chavez, Hank Blalock and Mueller all went yard twice.  Vlad Guerrero, Mike Lowell and Mueller all went 4 for 4.  Bad Billy Mueller gets the nod for LSOTD … Continue reading “4/11/06 Linescore of the Day: Bill Mueller”

A few players had a good day with the stick.  Khalil Greene, Eric Chavez, Hank Blalock and Mueller all went yard twice.  Vlad Guerrero, Mike Lowell and Mueller all went 4 for 4.

Bad Billy Mueller gets the nod for LSOTD ’cause he did both and well, I just didn’t think he had it in him.  He had 10 homers all of last year.  Granted, his power has gone up.  In his first 7 years, he hit 41 dingers.  In the last 3, he managed to knock out 31.

These are his first two of the year.  No complaints from the Dodgers, I’m sure.  He’s second in the NL so far in the early season with a .464 average.

Mulder initiated the new Busch Stadium in style.  He pitched a fine game and did well hitting too.

Says Mulder of his experience with the stick:

“It was cool,” the 28-year-old left-hander said.

“Going around second, I didn’t really feel anything. I was just trying not to smile or laugh running around the bases, because I wanted to.

“It was a cool experience, but I’m sure there’s probably not a good chance of that happening again this year.”

Cool.

4/9/06 Linescore of the Day: Michael Barrett

Michael Barrett, Chicago Cubs 2 for 4, HR, 4 rbis, 2 runs Maybe I’m showing my bias here but I gotta go with Barrett.  Ironically, the folks at Cubscast.com (a very good podcast if you’re a Cub fan, by the way) were getting on Barrett’s case in their podcast recorded after the Cincy series for his passed … Continue reading “4/9/06 Linescore of the Day: Michael Barrett”

Maybe I’m showing my bias here but I gotta go with Barrett.  Ironically, the folks at Cubscast.com (a very good podcast if you’re a Cub fan, by the way) were getting on Barrett’s case in their podcast recorded after the Cincy series for his passed ball and error he committed during against the Reds.

I think he’s made up for that.

4/8/06 Linescore of the Day: Omar Vizquel

Omar Vizquel, San Francisco Giants 4 for 4, 2B, 3 runs, 5 rbis In the Giant lineup of oldsters, Omar is showing some signs of life.  He drove in five from the leadoff spot.  Honorable mention goes to Barry Zito who lowered his ERA 38.66 points to 8.59 but more importantly got the win for … Continue reading “4/8/06 Linescore of the Day: Omar Vizquel”

Honorable mention goes to Barry Zito who lowered his ERA 38.66 points to 8.59 but more importantly got the win for the A’s.  He did it in style throwing one-hit ball in 6 innings with six strikeouts.
