4 for 5, 1 2B, 2 runs, 3 rbis Biggio and Lance Berkman both had 3 rbis for the ‘Stros against the weak Nats pitching staff.  The Astros won 10-3.  Biggio’s double was his 623rd of his career.  One more and he’s tied for ninth with Hammerin’ Hank.

Mark Cuddyer:  2 for 4, 3B, 2 runs, 5 rbis

This twin LSOTD comes to you courtesy of the… Twins who pretty much needed all this offense to defeat the Brewers 16-10.

Special Mention to Tadahito Iguchi with 2 HRs (including a grand slam) and 6 rbis.  But let’s face it, he did it against Rich Hill.  A bitter Cub fan?  Maybe.

Bat-girl and her entourage always have interesting insights on the Twins games.  For what’s it’s worth, she chooses Mauer as her B.O.D. (Boyfriend of the Day).

5/18/06 Linescore of the Day: Jeff Francoeur

3 for 4, 2B, 2 HR, 3 runs, 3 rbis Ten total bases for the sophomore Francoeur.  More importantly, he cleaned his plate.  No LOB.  Was Francoeur’s partial rookie season fluke or is he the real deal?  Though he’s hitting a lukewarm .269, he’s hit 10 homers so far this season.  One unsightly stat.. his .279 OBP by … Continue reading “5/18/06 Linescore of the Day: Jeff Francoeur”

One unsightly stat.. his .279 OBP by virtue of one walk.  If memory serves, he had one BB for a long time last year before he got it together and walked 10 more times.

5/17 Linescore of the Day: Brian Giles

In a wild affair Brian Giles accounted for a touchdown all by himself as the Padres defeated the D’Backs 14-10. Maybe it was the decision by the Arizona manager to go for a field goal rather than a game tying TD that was the difference in the contest. In a wild affair Brian Giles accounted for a touchdown all by himself as the Padres defeated the D’Backs 14-10. Maybe it was the decision by the Arizona manager to go for a field goal rather than a game tying TD that was the difference in the contest. SD jumped out to a 9-0 first inning lead before the Diamondbacks stepped to the plate, then scored another in the 2nd. The game got tantalizingly close when Arizona got within a run at 11-10 after an eight run sixth, but Giles put the game on ice with a three run 7th inning blast.

Brian Giles 4 for 6, 1 2B, 1 HR, 7 RBIs, 2 runs

Rangers 2 7 1 0 0 0 2 0 1 13 17 2
Yankees 0 1 2 0 2 6 1 0 2 14 16 1

Any fan attending this game most certainly got their money’s worth.  Except those who left early because they thought the Rangers had a sure win with a 10-3 lead in the 6th inning.

But as they say, anything can happen in baseball and in this case, something certainly did.  The Yankees 9 run comeback was the largest lead given up in Ranger history.

Everyone got in on the action.  Every starter on both teams, save one, got at least one hit.  The only one who didn’t, Robinson Cano, drove in a run on a ground out.

Posada was the big hero of the game.  Probably still feeling the effects of a major collision at the plate with Mark Teixeira earlier in the game, he hit a game winning two-run homer off Akinori Otsuka.  It was Otsuka’s first homer given up since May of last year.

5/15/06 Linescore of the Day: Mike Jacobs

3 for 4, 2 2B, HR, run, 6 rbis Put this in the “What does a guy have to do?” category.  Despite Mike Jacobs 6 rbis, the Marlins lost to the Braves 11-8.  This was due mostly to Andruw Jones who had a pretty good night himself going 4 for 4 with 4 rbis.  The Marlins … Continue reading “5/15/06 Linescore of the Day: Mike Jacobs”

The Marlins relief staff didn’t help either.  They gave up 9 runs in two innings.  The blown save was charged to Champaign native Matt Herges.  It’s good to see Matt still pitching in the bigs but he better get some quality innings in or he may not last too long.

HOWARD GIVES REDS A STOMACH ACHE

Ryan Howard didn’t start Sunday’s game for the Phillies in Cincinnati, but he ended it. Saturday night Howard was rushed to the ER because of a stomach ailment. Ryan came off the bench to hit a pinch homer, stayed in the game, and hit another homer in the 12th to give the Phils a 2-1 … Continue reading “HOWARD GIVES REDS A STOMACH ACHE”

Ryan came off the bench to hit a pinch homer, stayed in the game, and hit another homer in the 12th to give the Phils a 2-1 win over the Reds. Both home runs came off lefthanders, last year Howard only hit one longball off leftys. Ryan Howard 2 for 2, 2 homers, 2 RBI’s, 2 runs, 1 BB, 1 WIN

Cole Hamels:  5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 5 BB, 7 K

Shane Victorino:  4 for 4, 2B, HR, 2 runs, 2 rbis, HBP

This pair of young Phillies share the honor for good reason.  Hamels’ major league debut show he may be ready for the bigs.  He struck out seven including his boyhood idol Ken Griffey Jr twice.  Control was an issue but that may improve with time.

Victorino has been around for a couple years, playing with San Diego in 2003.  But he only has 123 at-bats to his name.  With Rowand’s schnozz injury, he’s going to get some playing time and he’s doing his best to make the most of it.

5/11/06 Linescore of the Day: Troy Glaus

2 for 4, 2 HR, 2 runs, 4 rbis Troy also had a good day in the field with two DPs to his credit.  The Jays beat the A’s behind solid pitching by Ted Lilly and much help by Glaus, who now has 12 dingers for the year. Troy also had a good day in the field with two DPs to his credit.  The Jays beat the A’s behind solid pitching by Ted Lilly and much help by Glaus, who now has 12 dingers for the year.

Nick Swisher also had two HRs in this game for the A’s.  Unfortunately for Oakland, that was pretty much the only offense they could muster.
