On this date in 1976, Toby Harrah became the only shortstop in ML history to play a doubleheader without recording a fielding chance. He was playing for the Rangers and the doubleheader was against the White Sox.
Oddly enough, Harrah had plenty contact with the ball with the bat that day. He collected six hits including two homeruns, one a grand slam. The Rangers lost the first game and won the second.
Harrah was one of those players who was never a superstar but nevertheless was solid all around. He hit for some power, stole bases, and saw the ball well enough to get on base with the walk. His fielding was well above average first as a shortstop then later as a thirdbaseman.
