Looking Down

I’m a bit of a Google Earth buff.  It’s a neat program.  If you haven’t checked it out, it’s a free download.  Of course, I’ve viewed a few of my favorite baseball parks from above.  It’s amazing how close you can view the stadiums.  But the web site From the Gonzo has gone further.  They’ve taken … Continue reading “Looking Down”

Of course, I’ve viewed a few of my favorite baseball parks from above.  It’s amazing how close you can view the stadiums.

But the web site From the Gonzo has gone further.  They’ve taken images of pretty much every park and displayed them on their site.  Check it out.  The images are clickable to enlarge.

PNC Park is especially interesting because there is a game going on when the photo was shot.

Ok, before looking, what park is that a photo of?

MetsBlog

Not much time to write tonight as I just got back in to town but I do want to mention that I’m adding MetsBlog to the BlogRoll. That’s long overdue since Matt Cerone is one of most prolific bloggers out there and does a fantastic job covering the Mets. Rumor has it that Matt is … Continue reading “MetsBlog”

Not much time to write tonight as I just got back in to town but I do want to mention that I’m adding MetsBlog to the BlogRoll.

That’s long overdue since Matt Cerone is one of most prolific bloggers out there and does a fantastic job covering the Mets.

Rumor has it that Matt is going to “quit his day job” and make a living off his blog.

Good luck, Matt!

For the baseball stat junkies out there

I’ve updated the link to Baseball Musings’ Day by Day Database.  If you haven’t seen it lately, Dave Pinto has made some really nice changes to it over the winter.  It was great before but now… well, you’ll just have to take a look to see what I mean. I’ve updated the link to Baseball Musings’ Day by Day Database.  If you haven’t seen it lately, Dave Pinto has made some really nice changes to it over the winter.  It was great before but now… well, you’ll just have to take a look to see what I mean.

Take a look at say, Albert Pujols’ splits for 2005, for example.  The DBD database will spit out the stats by righty/lefty pitcher faced, base situations, out situations, home/away and for each park, by opponents, by months, by lineup slot, by inning, by score difference (i.e. leading by 1 etc.), by pitcher type (starter/reliever).

Wow.

And that’s just the start, the database allows for player comparisons, team splits, current streaks and more.  If you’re a stat freak, it is definitely a great tool.

Thanks to David Pinto at Baseball Musings for putting the work into this.

Show Him the Money!

No, I meant David Pinto. David maintains Baseball Musings, one of the best baseball blogs out there.  Right now, David is holding a pledge drive.  Unlike most of us, David’s blog is his main source of income so if you use Baseball Musings like I do, make a pledge. If you don’t read Baseball Musings, … Continue reading “Show Him the Money!”

If you don’t read Baseball Musings, you’re missing out.  David aggregates the latest news in baseball interspersed with his analysis and comments.  Very valuable, in my opinion.

MLB Rumor Clearinghouse- adding another to the blogroll

MLB Rumor Clearinghouse is a new blog out there covering the latest news in baseball.  Love his alias… The Cooperstown Kid. I see they have a link to APBA.  Reminds me, did I get my league stats done this month??

A Cubs blog that doesn’t suck

I don’t know why I haven’t seen this one earlier but the Chicago National League Ball Club Blog is a pretty good site for Cub fans.  I find myself going back there.  First, I dig the name.  The site is visually appealing and besides the normal content, it has some cool features that make it … Continue reading “A Cubs blog that doesn’t suck”

I don’t know why I haven’t seen this one earlier but the Chicago National League Ball Club Blog is a pretty good site for Cub fans.  I find myself going back there.

First, I dig the name.  The site is visually appealing and besides the normal content, it has some cool features that make it interesting.  One of the contributors has a thing for Univ. of Iowa sports which I’m willing to overlook.

Take a gander, Cub fans.

Baseball for the Ears

For the old-time baseball fans, this will take you back.  The Deadball Era’s Audio Vault is an archive of audio files from baseball history.  Just a few of the examples you can listen to include an announcer calling one of Babe Ruth’s homeruns, an interview with Carl Hubbell talking about his All-Star performance, The Shot … Continue reading “Baseball for the Ears”

The Deadball Era’s Audio Vault is an archive of audio files from baseball history.

Just a few of the examples you can listen to include an announcer calling one of Babe Ruth’s homeruns, an interview with Carl Hubbell talking about his All-Star performance, The Shot Heard ‘Round the World, and one of my favorite comedy routines, Abbott and Costello’s Who’s on First?.

Turn up the speakers and take a listen.

A Baseball Blog with a Euro feel

“If an English baseball fan living in France voices an opinion and there’s nobody around to hear it, does he make a sound?”.  That is the tagline of The Baseball Desert.  Worth a look. He has an interesting analysis of the World Baseball Classic.
