Chris Carpenter, St Louis Cardinals
9 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 9 K
What a gem by Carpenter!
He was faced by Clemens who once again, got no support from his fellow Astros either in the form of bat or glove. Clemens allowed one earned run in 7 IP. He is now 7-4 with a 1.47 ERA.
But back to Carpenter. Up until this year, he was a solid but mediocre pitcher. He had a 4.59 ERA and usually seemed to find a way to win 10-12 games a season. This year, he has come into his own to the delight of Cardinal fans. With a 14-4 record and 2.34 ERA, he is putting up stats like never before. He’s one win away from his career high last year.
As good as his season has been, his performance this past month has been simply phenomenal. Since June 14th, he’s allowed only 2 runs in 50 2/3 innings. He is 6-0 in that period.
