It’s been a while since I did a LSOTD. I better get on the ball. Oh, all right, I guess it’s Felix.

Felix Hernandez and Kelvim Escobar were involved in a pitcher’s duel. Felix came out the winner with his first career shutout.

Apparently, his coaches were telling King F that pitch location was more important than strikeouts. Not so good for his fantasy owners but then again if he pitches this well…

8/24/06: LINESCORE OF THE DAY – JON GARLAND

Jon Garland has been on fire for the White Sox winning 11 of his last 12 decisions. Garland was on the hill for Chicago in the 4th game of this important series against the Detroit Tigers. Jon Garland has been on fire for the White Sox winning 11 of his last 12 decisions. Garland was on the hill for Chicago in the 4th game of this important series against the Detroit Tigers. Jon was his masterful self turning the Tigers into kittens, shutting them out 10-0, and evening the series at 2-2. Jermaine Dye hit two home runs and is having an MVP season, but Juan Uribe’s three run 4th inning bomb put the game on ice as the Sox were up 5-0 and never looked back.

Next up the Twins come to the Cell for a three game series. The Sox lead Minnesota by one game in the Wild Card race, and trail Detroit by five in the loss column for the Central Division of the AL. I’ll be taking the L to the Cell for this big time weekend series against the Twins.

Jon Garland W 9 IP, 6 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO, 4.47 ERA

Followup: Mad props to leftfielder Pablo Ozuna for his hustlin’ play to throw out Sean Casey at first base, too.

8/23/06: LINESCORE OF THE DAY – ESTEBAN LOAIZA

Esteban Loaiza evened his record at seven wins against seven losses when he tossed this gem against the Toronto Bluejays. Loaiza was efficient delivering 73 of 103 pitches for strikes. Esteban has been terrific lately, allowing only one home run over his last seven starts, after giving up 12 in his previous 12 outings. After … Continue reading “8/23/06: LINESCORE OF THE DAY – ESTEBAN LOAIZA”

Esteban has been terrific lately, allowing only one home run over his last seven starts, after giving up 12 in his previous 12 outings. After signing a big contract with the A’s in the offseason he was 0-3 with a 8.35 ERA in April and picked up for DUI in May. It seems as though he’s turned his season around just when Oakland needed him most.

8/12-14/06: LINESCORE OF THE DAY – MATT DIAZ

The 28 year old reserve Atlanta Braves outfielder Matt Diaz had a streak of 10 straight hits in 10 straight at bats. I’ve been wanting to say something about this kid’s streak and am finally getting around to it. Oma broke her hip just before this accomplishment, sometimes life gets in the way. Matt Diaz … Continue reading “8/12-14/06: LINESCORE OF THE DAY – MATT DIAZ”

8/22/06: LINESCORE OF THE DAY – NICK MARKAKIS

At the start of the season Markakis struggled for the O’s. It looked like he was overmatched. NickyV even suggested the only reason he was in the lineup was due to his Greek heritage, Orioles owner Peter Angelos is also Greek. But now it seems Baltimore might have known what they were doing. 8/21/06: LINESCORE OF THE DAY – NOAH LOWRY

Had to give a shout out to my ole buddy Noah Lowry. I selected the lefty changeup artist in last year’s rookie draft for my Chicago Champions of the Illowa APBA League. Then I included him in a deal along with a couple of high draft choices to acquire Mark Buehrle. Lowry seems to have … Continue reading “8/21/06: LINESCORE OF THE DAY – NOAH LOWRY”

Had to give a shout out to my ole buddy Noah Lowry. I selected the lefty changeup artist in last year’s rookie draft for my Chicago Champions of the Illowa APBA League. Then I included him in a deal along with a couple of high draft choices to acquire Mark Buehrle. Lowry seems to have his game altogether, while Buehrle has struggled to say the least. Although Noah was facing the offensively challenged Arizona Diamondbacks, a shutout is a shutout. Nice job by a pitcher I affectionately refer to as Whisper.

8/21/06 Linescore of the Day: Dan Haren

5 2/3 IP, 11 H, 9 R, 9 ER, 2 BB, 4 K (Win) Not very often will you see a pitcher put up this kind of line AND get the win. Haren can thank Jason Kendall and Bobby Kielty. When Ranger starter John Koronka spotted Detroit 6 runs after only 1 1/3 innings, it didn’t look like Texas had much of a chance. But kudos to Josh Rupe, Joaquin Benoit, Ron Mahay, and Akinori Otsuka who held Detroit scoreless while the offense did their damage to win 7-6.

Benoit got the win, Otsuka got the save.

8/18/06 Linescore of the Day: Ryan Zimmerman

3 for 5, HR, run, 5 rbi Rookie 3B Ryan Zimmerman was the first draft pick from 2005 to be signed. So far, he hasn’t disappointed.
